Have you ever heard the phrase “thoughts become things”? This is the simplest definition of the concept of Manifestation. In other words, what you think, feel, and believe can become your reality – this means that you can focus your thoughts on something and actually draw it to yourself. The same rings true for negative thoughts and belief systems, so this is where being mindful comes into play.
Many people hear about manifestation and want to get started on it right away, but what they haven’t realized is that they have already been manifesting for their whole entire lives! Whether you know it or not, you are always calling things to yourself. Your feelings, thoughts, and desires are constantly sending and receiving energetic signals (vibrations) to the universe.
Have you ever had one bad thing happen to you and then for the rest of the day encountered a series of unfortunate events (pun intended)? This is because when the first bad thing happened, your feelings and thoughts surrounding the day became negative and you subconsciously manifested more of what you didn’t want. Don’t panic – this doesn’t mean that every negative thought is going to instantly manifest on your lap. You have time to shift your focus and slow down the negative momentum. Wouldn’t it be terrifying if everything we thought manifested instantly? Luckily for us, that is not the case. Manifesting mindfully does not mean we will never have negative thoughts, it simply means that we are more conscious of what we are thinking and the energy that we are putting into the universe. Negative thoughts will come, but by acknowledging them you can shift the momentum in the opposite direction (even though sometimes it may seem impossible to think of anything else when you are in a negative situation).
A good technique to combat this is to go general instead of trying to force a positive thought. You may not be able to think positive about a person that you are angry at, but you can point out a beautiful flower. You might not be able to think of wellness when you’re sick, but you could focus on supportive aspects of your friends and family members. The key here is to try and not let yourself be overwhelmed with negative emotion, but instead, find ways to bring yourself back to a neutral state of being. Focus on feeling good – feeling good will be your main priority.
Now that we are clear on how to avoid manifesting negative things all willy-nilly, we can focus on being intentional about manifesting specific goals and desires.
Step One: Be Specific. Decide what it is that you would like to manifest. While your desires are already known to the universe, it is important for you to focus on what you are trying to call into your physical reality. Make sure that whatever you are trying to manifest is something that you truly want, that you tell yourself you deserve to have it, and that it will benefit you in a positive way. Intention and belief are the driving factors when it comes to this step. Acknowledging why you want something gives it power and verbalizing that you deserve to have it will determine if it actually will manifest.
Step Two: Remove Obstacles. Starting with yourself. A negative belief system is an unsafe environment for a positive manifestation – your thoughts and your outlook on life influence your point of attraction. Self-care practices (exercising, reading a book, spending time outside, meditating, or simply doing something that will make you happy) can help combat a negative mindset. Being honest with yourself is a great start, but you also need to be aware of the people you keep around you because there is a direct correlation between your energy and the people in your environment. People who constantly complain and bring negativity to the table can hinder your personal growth in your journey. Lastly, be realistic about the time that it will take to manifest this goal. Patience is very important because most things will not manifest overnight. I often giggle at the thought of everything I want in life showing up all at once – it would be too much too soon, and I would probably have an anxiety attack. Some change is gradual for a reason – trust the process!
Step Three: Visualize what you want. Close your eyes and imagine what the manifestation looks like, smells like, sounds like, tastes like, feels like. Go into your mind’s eye and picture how happy you will feel when the manifestation arrives.
Step Four: Gratitude. Gratitude, along with belief, is the most important step in manifesting your reality. At the beginning of this article, I invited you to focus on how you feel – gratitude always feels good. It is very hard to be grumpy and grateful at the same time. When you’re sick try the mantra “thank you for my health” when you are anxious to try “I am worthy”. Gratitude is a great way to start a positive momentum, to feel good about where you are in this present reality, and to call what you want to you.
Step Five: Appreciate. Sometimes it takes time to be able to recognize it because it may not present itself exactly as you envisioned, but when you see it bask in it. There will always be something else that you want – we were made for expansion. Sometimes we miss all the small victories because we are so focused on the end goal, and we forget to acknowledge the progress. It is very important to not skip over the feel-good feeling of your manifestation arriving. Remember what you did, remember that you mindfully brought something into your life.
Now go out there and manifest some shit! The universe will send you signs that your manifestation is coming to you, so pay attention! You’ll encounter things that remind you of your desires, you will feel excited when you think about where you are going in life, you may even repetitively see a particular sign or a number that mean something to you. Let these things excite you and take note that you are on the right path.
